Sally Pymer has a background in psychology and has worked across Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), health promotion, community development, fire recovery, disability, fitness and science. Through both her professional and lived experience, Sally has developed a deep understanding of the impact alcohol can have on individuals, families and communities, as well as the many factors that contribute to alcohol and other drug use.
She is passionate about reducing stigma, strengthening inclusion and creating healthier, more connected communities. Sally’s work highlights the powerful role human connection, compassion and even a genuine smile can play in breaking down barriers, improving wellbeing and helping people feel seen, valued and supported.
Specific areas of expertise include the impacts stigma can have on alcohol use, mental health and wellbeing no matter the degree alcohol is consumed; the contributory factors towards alcohol and other drug use; alcohol-related harms; health promotion and prevention strategies; inclusion and belonging; and recognising the person behind the behaviour.
Sally is particularly passionate about creating compassionate, non-judgmental conversations that strengthen understanding, reduce stigma and support healthier individuals, families and communities.
