Tell us about Pee Wee’s at the Point – what’s the story behind it and what inspired you to open here?
My Husband, Simon, and I took over Pee Wee’s in March 2002 from the original owners that built Pee Wee’s in the late 90’s. Pee Wee’s was built on a site called Pee Wee Camp, which was established in 1911 when East Point was developed by the Defence Forces to protect Port Darwin against naval attacks. Our vision has always been to offer great food and service in a world class location, with the laid-back sophistication of the Top End.
What sort of clientele typically visits, and what’s the atmosphere like?
We’re known as a special occasion venue, so host a vast range of guests from Darwin locals to International travellers. Our unique Waterfront venue is situated in East Point Nature Reserve. Although only 8km away from Darwin CBD it offers a tranquil and sophisticated dining experience.
What can visitors expect from your food? Is there a “must try” plate you’d recommend?
Our menus aim to reflect the produce, climate and multiculturism of the Northern Territory. We source wild caught Saltwater Barramundi and Reef Fish, as well as NT grown tropical fruit and vegetables when in season. A must try dish would be the Crocodile La Lot and the Double Roasted Duckling with Kakadu Plum and Tamarind Jus.

And what about drinks, what does your full drinks list look like, including any alcohol-free or low-alcohol options?
We have a full Zero Alcohol List which includes, a great range of non-alcoholic cocktails, as well as Wine, Beer and Spirits.
What led you to offering such a thoughtful range for the non-drinker, and how did you go about choosing it?
We noticed a shift in the last five years with non-alcoholic beverages becoming more and more requested. At first it took some effort to be able to accommodate these guests, however we were delighted to become acquainted with several companies that offered a great range of products we could work with.
Are you noticing tastes changing among your clientele? How do you plan to keep your selection evolving?
Definitely the increase in the request for non-alcoholic drinks has become the norm. We have been at Pee Wee’s for 25 years so are also evolving our menus and drinks lists to accommodate the needs of our guests. We are seeing a shift away from wine at the moment, with cocktails and spirits becoming the drink of choice, and definitely the move towards non-alcoholic options.
